Whew! It has been a long week!

“It’s only Tuesday, Sis” is the last thing I want to hear. Some weeks just feel like they are trying to go ten rounds. Music tends to lift me up and out of the boxing ring. The right playlist can reset your mind. This is what inspired my weekly “Wake Up Wednesday”. While I have my own jiggy playlist to listen to, I share some inspirational tracks on my Instagram stories every Wednesday morning to help spread the vibes.

Music has always been my love language. It pushes me through motivational moments, periods of weakness, or the celebration of victories. There is an emotion for every track. On Wednesdays, I particularly focus on the “Go-Getter Anthems” like Ciara “Level Up”, Tierra Whack and Beyonce ” My Power” or Janelle Monae “Electric Lady”! These are the type of jams that make you remember what you are capable of. They instill the confidence that will be oozing out by the time you reach your workspace.

I also like to toss in a few songs you just can’t resist singing to. The belting vocals of Mariah Carey or Destiny’s Child get me lifted in traffic. Classic Fantasia always gets me singing and dismissing anything that doesn’t serve me. Patti LaBelle makes me fly while Usher makes me dance. A little Luther Vandross keeps the troubles away and India Arie puts things into perspective. Catch me down I85 blasting Beyonce’s “End of Time” choreography and all!

You may have noticed that I tend to time travel into the past a bit. I listen to songs that take me back to monumental moments. Teyana Taylor “Google Me” gives me the confident stride of the sassy 9th-grade student I was when I first heard it. I adore songs that have been lyrical cheerleaders for me in the past. They make you walk on clouds and stomp down any door closed in your face. In turn, I boss up and conquer the week to the beat of my own drum.
