Arrival to Hotel Bardo Tulum

The drive from Secret Maramor Playa de Carmen to Bardo Tulum was about 45 mins. We pulled up to a gorgeous outdoor lobby. While they situated our room, we were greeted with welcome cocktails Mezcalitas. They have explained the layout of the land. We walked past the restaurant, a stunning pool, and shady hammocks. We strolled through trees and gravel as we journeyed to our private villa. Each villa was tucked privately between luscious greenery and bamboo fences.

I was in awe when we approached our villa. It was so much more gorgeous than the pictures could pull off. A small private plunge pool stat in front of a full glass wall of windows. Through the sliding glass laid an L-shaped couch, a king-size bed, an outdoor shower, a closet/sink space, and a restroom. Our private villa features a plunge pool, outdoor shower, hammocks, and plenty of space to relax while surrounded by lush greenery. Off to the side of the villa was a STUNNING black hammock that was thick with tassels hanging off. Strapped with a can of OFF bug spray, I laid in the hammock for about 10 minutes before the thoughts of spiders got in my head.

Keep in mind there is no television. There is wifi available if you need it! We really just enjoyed the vibes with a blue tooth speaker. We could stream shows on our laptops if we needed but this was the most disconnected I’ve been and it was glorious!

The hotel’s villas are spread out across the property, with many hidden away in lush tropical gardens. Each room is beautifully designed with a mix of modern and traditional Mexican decor, creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere. But the real gem of Hotel Bardo Tulum is its hidden suite, tucked away deep within the property. The private villas are accessed through a secret garden, where guests can enjoy the peaceful pool as they make their way to the entrance.

Hotel Bardo: The Service

The staff was super accommodating. They explained the city, safety, and atmosphere to us. I was hesitant about using a local taxi service. The front desk associate was very helpful and made me feel more comfortable. One night my husband was craving Domino’s Pizza but the app was acting with international connections. So the front desk ordered the pizza for us while we were out on the town. When we arrived back at the hotel, the Domino’s delivery driver pulled up on a moped. The hotel was so pleasant for translating between us. The room service at the private villa was quick and satisfying. The first thing we did when we checked in was order a few drinks, tacos, rock shrimp, and fries. Turn on our Bluetooth speaker and enjoyed the villa!

The staff stays in communication with you through What’s App. You can order room service, request a car, or do anything else you need through What’s App.

Hotel Bardo: The Property

The pool was absolute relaxation. Swimming in the jungle so beautifully. It was a long pool surrounded by knitted black lounge chairs. Light music added to the vibes. We were able to order food and drinks poolside. The pool was never crowded. Every day, there was bout about 5-8 people lounging or swimming. The weather was perfect in September. The FOOD was AHHHMAZINGGGGGG. We ate breakfast and dinner there. More on the food below.

I heard they offer yoga classes and a traditional ceremony that we were not interested in. I read reviews about it but it wasn’t mentioned to us. We were happy campers doing our own thing. Complimentary bicycles are available, and the concierge can coordinate private cooking classes and tequila or mezcal tastings.

Keep in mind that Bardo is NOT a beachfront property. It is about 10 mins away from Tulum Beach. The front desk arranged a taxi to take us to Taboo Tulum for a stunning lunch!

This is the type of property where you can stay all day and just relax, disconnect, and be a vibe. While the suite offers the ultimate in seclusion and privacy, guests are still just steps away from all the amenities that Hotel Bardo Tulum has to offer. They can enjoy a swim in the hotel’s outdoor pool, relax in the garden, or indulge in a massage at the hotel’s spa. f you’re looking for a secluded hideaway deep within Tulum, the hidden suite at Hotel Bardo Tulum is a perfect choice. With its luxurious amenities, stunning design, and prime location, it’s the ultimate escape from the stresses of everyday life.

What we ate at Bardo

We ate multiple meals at Bardo Tulum! Let’s start with breakfast. The fresh juices were exactly what you need to hydrate and replenish on the sunny days of Tulum. I can’t find the menu online so the names may be off. The pancakes were picture-perfect light and fluffy. I had a stunning plate of Chilaquiles a traditional Mexican breakfast that’s composed of tortilla chips loaded with thick green salsa or red enchilada sauce.

Dinner was a full experience. We tried a few fresh plates of pasta like lobster ravioli. We indulged in a whole red snapper. It was our first time eating a fresh whole fish. IT WAS LIFE-CHANGING. They lit the butter at the tableside to allow the garlic butter to flow down the fish. I will say their desserts are of an acquired taste. We couldn’t find one that really set it off for US. and you could hardly ask for a more atmospheric restaurant than Milum, with its thatched roof and stone carvings serving as a backdrop to some fine contemporary Yucatán fare.  Specialties range from vegan cauliflower tacos al pastor with roasted pineapple to classic cochinita pibil (suckling pig) tacos, a specialty of the Yucatán. Guests can also enjoy gin- and mezcal-based cocktails at the onsite bar, The Kinky Room.

Room service and poolside service were tasty fresh guacamole, fries, and taco. The drinks and food were always on point. We enjoyed ordering Mezcalitas which are a version of a Margarita but instead of Tequila, it is replaced with Mezcal. While both Tequila and Mezcal come from agave plants, they are each made from different agave plants. And the process to make Mezcal is different from that of making Tequila. It was the drink of choice for our week-long vacation. Now, Check out where we went next after Hotel Bardo!
